Uses of adsorption in industry?

1.Adsorption has a wide range of applications. In addition to the well-known compressed air drying, it also has the following applications:

①. Dehydration and deep drying of gases and solutions (such as the drying of refrigerant Freon);

②, recovery of a small amount of solvent in the gas (such as benzene, acetone in paint, etc.);

③. Separation and refining of monomers of chemical raw materials (such as separation of fructose and glucose in carbohydrates);

④, gas separation and refining (such as nitrogen, oxygen, etc.);

⑤. Water treatment and environmental protection (such as decolorization and deodorization of aqueous solution by activated carbon, etc.);

⑥. Utilize the enrichment ability of the adsorbent to enrich and separate low-content precious metals (such as lean ore gold), rare earth metal ores, etc.

2. What is regeneration of adsorbent? How many regeneration methods are there?

The so-called "regeneration" is the process of recovering the adsorbent after reaching the adsorption equilibrium to the surface activity level before adsorption through physical methods.

Adsorbent regeneration methods mainly include "heating regeneration" and "decompression regeneration".

In the compressed air adsorption dryer:

The former method is to directly heat the adsorbent with steam or hot air to make it desorb and regenerate. This method requires heat from the outside, so it is called "hot regeneration";

The latter method is to "purge and clean" the adsorbent with dry air with low partial pressure. This method does not require external heating, so it is called "heatless regeneration"

3. What is PSA?

Pressure swing adsorption is a process of adsorption and separation at constant temperature or without heat source. At constant temperature, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent to the adsorbed component increases with the increase of its partial pressure and decreases with the decrease of its partial pressure.

In this way, the adsorbent is adsorbed under pressure, desorbed under pressure or vacuum, and the adsorbed components are released to regenerate the adsorbent and form a cycle.

4. What is variable temperature adsorption?

When the partial pressure of the adsorbate is constant, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent to the adsorbate decreases with the increase of temperature, and on the contrary, the adsorption capacity increases with the decrease of temperature.

5. What are the commonly used adsorbents for compressed air dryers?

The most commonly used adsorbents for compressed air are silica gel, activated alumina and molecular sieve. Activated carbon is also a common adsorbent. In the field of air purification, activated carbon is mainly used to absorb oil vapor in the air and remove chemical odor in the air.
